Very special 1949 Pontiac Streamliner Silver Streak for sale. This lovely old Pontiac left the factory finished in black paint with a gray broadcloth interior. It has been beautifully preserved and has only 50,300 original miles.
It came highly optioned from the factory with the 239 Flathead Inline 6, manual transmission, grille guards, directional signals, vacuum booster pump, oil bath cleaner, GX safety light, under-seat heat and defrost, Chieftain radio, Simoniz, Jack kit, seat covers, gas filter, undercoating, guard rear & gas cap lock. It includes its original dealer purchase agreement for $2,299.29 from Community Motors in Chicago, Illinois, and a shop manual.
The 239 cubic inch 3.9-liter flathead inline six-cylinder engine starts immediately, runs quietly and burns clean. The 3-speed synchromesh manual transmission shifts effortlessly through the gears. Suspension and braking perform well, making this old Pontiac wonderful to drive.
The exterior has been remarkably well preserved. It has much of its original paint with some touch-up over the years as needed. There are a few small thin spots on the original lacquer and a couple of areas with checking what would be expected on a 72-year-old classic. The original chrome and trim still have a lovely shine, and the glass is in good condition all-around.
It rides on a period-correct set of bias-ply whitewall tires. The windshield still bears its last City of Chicago inspection decal dating back to 1954! Overall the exterior of this Silver Streak is quite attractive.
Inside appears to be totally original. There are no rips or tears in the headliner, fabrics, or panels, and it appears obvious that this car has spent its pampered life indoors. The broadcloth is beautiful. The dash is immaculate with clear, working gauges and lovely chrome trim and bezels. The front floor rubber mat is immaculate on the passenger side with minor degradation on the passenger area.
Other than an under-dash mounted CB radio, everything is completely stock and in good working order with the exception of the clock & wipers. Even the radio is operational. In addition, the windows roll up & down with ease, and the doors open and close effortlessly. The interior is truly amazing and wonderful to be in.
This is a wonderful opportunity to own an interesting preservation-class piece of Americana. It ships from Sonoma, California.
