Very special old 1957 Ford Thunderbird for sale after 60 years with the same lady owner. Born December 27th, 1956 in Dearborn and delivered to it's originating dealer in San Jose. It was originally finished in Thunderbird Bronze w/Colonial White Hardtop and a Pleated Bronze Vinyl interior.
It is still equipped with its original 312ci 4V valve V8 and Fordomatic transmission. It includes an enormous amount of records and history, sales documents, vintage photos with its owner Aileen who even makes a special appearance in the video for this car!
Aileen loved the Thunderbird when it came out. By 1960 she was finally able to afford this one from a used dealer in San Jose. We even have her purchase receipt! She loved her Thunderbird and would use it as her daily driver until the early 1980s. She became an active member of the local Thunderbird club for many decades and participated in a plethora of fun events over the years.
Now that she is no longer driving, she wants to make sure her special little T-Bird finds an appreciative new owner that will love it as she does. 60 years is a long time making its destination especially important.
We promised her one last ride before it heads off to its new caretaker. Though the engine was rebuilt years ago, it had been stored in the last few and needed to be gone through to ensure that her last ride was happy and memorable! We installed a new fuel tank and pump, fuel lines, and filters and gave the carburetor a good cleaning and adjustment and a new battery and now she starts right up, burns clean and, runs like a champ.
We tuned it up and gave it fresh oil, and a brand new set of whitewall radial tires. Also, we installed a new water pump, temperature sending unit, thermostat, and new radiator cap & hose with fresh coolant to keep it running cool. The stopping power is excellent with no leaks and between 4-5mm on the shoes making this Thunderbird start run and drive great!
The interior is mostly original though when the car was painted red the pleated bronze vinyl portions of the interior were changed to white. Currently, the radio does not turn on, otherwise, all other accessories are in working order including the heater, fan, gauges, horn, and lights. The trunk mat was worn so we ordered a new one to spruce up the trunk. The jack, lug wrench and spare are present. All in all, this special Thunderbird is very comfortable to ride in.
The red paint was redone decades ago and is showing its age with nicks, scratches, and touched up areas. The chrome & trim have aged well like that of an original car. Many Thunderbird owners did not like the skirts including Aileen. Luckily, replacements can be readily found online for a few hundred bucks should the new owner prefer that look.
It is rare in the classic car world for any car to have been under one owner for so many decades making this a very special car indeed!
