Very special and unique 1959 MGA Roadster for Sale. Perhaps if Jaguar or Aston Martin were called upon to render the finish quality of the legendary MGA, it would have looked something like this incredible example. Restored by the famous Gaffoglio Family, known worldwide for building prototype and concept automobiles for the world's largest automotive manufacturers.
This MGA was built to the highest standards by the family for one of their sons. The restoration began with an incredibly straight, original rust-free California specimen with the provenance appropriate for a project of this magnitude.
Current owner purchased car shortly after it's completion in 2003. Since finished it has tracked just over 2,000 miles. Photos prior to the restoration show a 100% rust-free, absolutely straight, solid and original California "A" wearing it's original factory paint. (Slide show below). The restoration you see here was the first ever.
The car has no sign of any prior damage anywhere, no rust ever, even the original floorboards remain intact and pristine. Deep, glassy basecoat/clearcoat paint over the smoothest body one could ever hope for, sparkling show quality chrome, beautifully finished 48 painted spoke wires accenting the high quality cloth top with matching side curtains; complete with matching tonneau cover, and side curtain divided storage bag.
The interior is breath-taking with excessive use of leather in areas that were originally vinyl coupled with the most dense, soft carpeting as found in modern high-end European luxury cars - perfectly fitted with more than ample amounts of insulation and installed with great attention to detail, even down to the leather trimmed rugs and even leather-finished cockpit rails.
The attention to detail in this superb MGA roadster tells a story of time taken to "make it right".
The driving experience in this car is phenomenal. One look under the bonnet and you see that almost everything was restored to factory or better than factory specifications! With the choke out half an inch when cold, just one pull on the starter and the car is instantly running quietly and with smooth precision. The car has fabulous power, smooth handling, nice suspension, tight brakes and responsive steering.
With the top up and side curtains installed, even the coldest days are a joy cruising in this magnificent roadster with a warm and comfortable cockpit nicely insulated from the outside. Personal belongings get the royal treatment as well in the perfectly finished boot.
And what provenance! The car has the black California plates still with the car from when they were issued to this car for the very first time!
Purchased brand new at new at the legendary Frank Millard Sport Cars, Inc., 15531 Ventura Boulevard, Encino, California by Kenneth J Phillips of 11418 Hatteras North Hollywood, California. Speaking to the originality, original floorboards and all 7 factory wooden pieces have never been removed and have all of the original floorboard nailed in seat slider bolt receptors throughout; original battery boxes both sides; all of original appearing body panels and original radiator duct panel with the X in it still excellent and flat/original radiator support bracket welds at top of shroud denoting no hits in nose; undamaged rear denoted by lower finish shroud seam in correct double edged and overlapped factory spec pressings and original factory foam 1959 seal with the factory staples still in boot cavity to rear shroud.
Original metal (not aftermarket fiberglass) front under bumper valance, original rocker panels both sides with the correct factory rivets and inner drain holes there and all 8 of 4 each side sill box inner and outer pieces original to this car are there and appear to have never previously been repaired. Boot floor as well appears to be completely original and undamaged from new
A couple of things to note, there are a few chips in the paint (these are minor and there are photos in the exterior slide-show gallery. Also, the syncro in 2nd gear is worn and requires double clutching when downshifting from 3rd. (From reading an old email it appears that the original intent was to install a 5-speed transmission, a conversion was never carried out).
The car is an amazing high quality example that breaks the rules just enough to take the MGA to the next level. It's provenance having come from the legendary Frank Millard Sport Cars in Encino, California; it's lifelong California residence and the documentation to corroborate it all make this one very special "A".
