1963 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III for sale in Sonoma. This is a California car as evidenced by both matching black, California issue license plates. Car was recently acquired from Southern California where it had been stored for an unknown period of time.
Upon arrival, we had the car inspected mechanically. It was prepared for starting by oiling the cylinders for a few days prior.
Levels were topped off, carburettors partially disassembled and cleaned. Tank was cleaned and after some ignition cleanup/adjustments and a new battery the car started right up. We preformed a compression check to each of the 8 cylinders. The results were between 140-150 across the board. The car shifts into it's respective gears.
The brakes are essentially non-existent and there is a "thump" in the rear as the car drives. As such, it has only been lot-tested. It is able to board a transporter but should not be driven until the mechanics can be serviced.
Someone installed an MSD electronic ignition. Most accessories and gauges work though power windows, 1970's aftermarket radio and wipers do not.
The body is very straight and complete, as is the trim. A small amount of sheet metal work will need to be done, particularly on the top of the left front fender and a small area on the right rear fender.
I am almost certain this is the original lacquer and it looks to have trapped moisture a few of these areas. As bad as the exterior shows, it really is quite solid, so are the floors and frame.
The interior is in a complete, yet tired state. The wood is very solid, complete and renewable. I noticed a little bit of veneer missing off the left rear picnic table but quickly found an envelope containing these small pieces. The leather is surprisingly supple.
While I think the car is deserving of a complete restoration, one could redo portions of the leather panels and dye the others. The door panels are also in quite good shape with the drivers panel needing to be refurbished. The headliner is completely intact yet discolored and spent.
A rear shelf panel is also needed. The boot is solid and includes the spare tire and battery covers along with a few tools. (See photos). I have installed a non-Rolls wheel and tire on the front left since the original is flat, however all five original wheels are included with the car. One hubcap is missing.
Car comes with a clear, California title and the fees are paid. This Rolls Royce Silver Cloud will make a nice acquisition because this is a fine, unmolested and surprisingly original Silver Cloud III that is completely worthy of a restoration.
