Meet Old Fred. A 1965 Chevrolet C20 Pickup & Camper rig. This is a one-family-owned California truck that's been kept in excellent, running condition. This special, old Chevy pickup was purchased brand new in 1965 in Simi Valley California at William L Morris Motors.
It lived in warm, inland Simi Valley for most of its life with Gene and Rita. A few short years later in 1975 Gene purchased Fred a brand new, fancy Dolphin camper. It's had many upgrades over the years and has been kept in reliable mechanical condition ready to go anywhere. A huge cache of records, (over 2.5 Lbs worth) are included.
Old Fred starts; runs and drives great. He has a BF Goodrich V8 350ci crate motor with only 10,000 miles on it. The manual 3-speed shifts perfectly, a new clutch was fitted at that time. The truck runs nice and cool.
It has power brakes, power steering, upgraded electronic ignition, three fuel tanks, dual batteries, one just replaced (the other is for the camper and charges while driving). We just replaced all of the brake hoses and wheel cylinders to assure its safety. The tires are excellent with over 90% tread remaining and no dry rot.
The oil and filter were just changed and the coolant and other fluids are clean. Fred has a documented history of being very well maintained by his fastidious owner.
The body is straight, rust-free and clean, it was repainted in the late 80's so expect some dings and a little touch-up paint here and there though it has a nice shine to it. The glass looks good and the truck seals up nicely. It's very presentable and gets a lot of thumbs-up!
The interior is clean and comfortable. Looks to have the original floor mats. It has a vintage Sears under-dash air conditioning that blows cold. A cassette tape payer was installed in the 80's so if you want to bring some mix tapes on your adventure you're all set to do so! There's a CB radio in old Fred as well.
We went through the camper and everything is in good working order. The propane system is working with the stove, water, toilet all in working order. The only item that will need to be replaced is the refrigerator.
It's set up to run on electricity or propane so either type could be installed.
What a rarity to find such a well documented, one-owner California truck with its camper! It's provided many special memories for Gene, Rita, and their family but now it's time to hand over to someone else who might love Fred just as much for the next 50 years or so!
