This 1966 Pontiac Lemans Convertible for sale was built November 1965 in Fremont, California, and Purchased new at Meridian Motors in nearby Concord, December 5th of 1965. Finished in Montero Red with a White Top and red interior.
Includes the original 1966 owner's guide, convertible folding top operation booklet, owner protection plan booklet with metal ID and protect plates, a booklet to the new owner from the selling dealer, And even an accessory booklet. This remarkably intact, rust-free classic Pontiac icon has a short owners list and even wears its original California-issued black and gold license plates.
The first owner put the car in storage for many years, thinking the transmission was bad. When the 2nd owner purchased it he found it was only low on fluid. He got the car back on the road, redid the exhaust, installed a new intake manifold and 4-bbl carburetor, new tires, disc brakes up front, and a complete tune-up and began to enjoy the car, even driving it hundreds of miles to events in Southern California on a couple of occasions. There was an area of the left rear quarter that was pushed in, so he had it repaired and refinished to replicate the patina.
The exterior is mostly straight, rust-free, and mostly original, along with the trim, glass, and lenses. The working power top needs to be replaced, although the frame is good. It has a nice set of steel wheels with trim rings and caps wrapped in an older set of BF Goodrich P245/60 R15s at the rear and P215/60 R15s up-front with plenty of tread.
The underside is original and has no rot, making it an excellent restoration candidate. Early on, under its first ownership, the front fenders and hood were replaced, but the frame, core support, and internal areas look to have been unscathed. (see photos).
The interior is mostly fresh with new upholstery, door and kick panels, cards, and new carpeting. The inside lights are in working order, as well as the horn, gauges, heater/defroster, and fan; wipers work, but they do not self-park, and the radio powers on, but there is no reception, though the antenna is broken—otherwise, very comfortable for even the longest drives.
The 326 CI V8 starts and runs well with plenty of power. It shifts through the gears easily and the braking and suspension feel tight and responsive. It has front disc brakes, a newer dual exhaust system and KYB adjustable gas shocks. It's a nice driving car so be sure to check out the video for my driving impressions.
